Avana is available in pill form for oral administration. For men taking the 100 mg or 200 mg doses, it is typically taken with or without food as needed, approximately 15 minutes prior to engaging in sexual activity. For those taking the 50 mg dose, it is generally taken with or without food as needed, around 30 minutes before sexual activity. Do not exceed one dose of Avana in a 24-hour period. Carefully adhere to the instructions on your prescription label, and consult your doctor or pharmacist if there's anything you don't understand. Take Avana exactly as prescribed; do not take more or less than directed, or use it more frequently than prescribed by your healthcare provider. Your doctor may start you on a standard dosage and adjust it based on your response to the medication. Inform your doctor if Avana is ineffective or if you encounter any side effects.

Consuming alcohol can heighten certain side effects of Avana. Limit your intake to no more than 3 alcoholic beverages while using this medication. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can interact with Avana, potentially causing adverse effects, so it's best to avoid these products during treatment. This medication does not provide protection against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV and AIDS; using a condom remains the sole method of protection against these diseases.

The side effects associated with Avana are generally mild. Commonly observed side effects in individuals taking this medication include headaches, flushing, nasal congestion, a runny nose, a sore throat, and back pain. Rarely, Avana may lead to serious side effects such as an erection lasting longer than 4 hours, vision loss, hearing loss, or tinnitus. If you experience any of these serious side effects after taking Avana, seek medical attention immediately.
